Tickfaw Man Arrested for Killing His Wife

TICKFAW – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the arrest of Benny Ray Prine, (w/m, DOB 8.13.60) of 49456 Pardo Ln. in Tickfaw, LA. Prine was arrested on April 25, 2010 and charged with second degree murder for the death of his wife 41 year old Rose Mary Prine.

At approximately 12:15 pm on April 24, 2010, sheriff’s deputies responded to Pardo Lane in Tickfaw to assist Lt. Joseph Starnes from the Tickfaw PD with a medical emergency and possible death. Upon Lt. Blane Sanders arrival, he was able to determine that Mrs. Prine’s death was not of natural causes. It was determined at this time that the victim, Rose Mary Prine, died as the result of a brutal homicide.

After an extensive investigation led by TPSO Detectives, it is believed that Benny Ray Prine violently beat his wife to death as she lay sleeping in their bed. It was determined that the weapon used in the death of Mrs. Prine was a blunt instrument.

Benny Ray Prine was arrested on April 25, 2010 and is currently at the TPSO Jail on a $150,000 bond.

TPSO - Sex Offender Round-Up

Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the following:
In the early morning hours of April 22, 2010, many convicted sex offenders in Tangipahoa Parish were awakened by the sound of law enforcement officers at their door. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards lead the effort consisting of over forty (40) law enforcement officers who were tasked with conducting compliance checks on area sex offenders and serving arrest warrants on individuals identified as non compliant sex offenders.
Officers were divided into teams and each team worked a specific area in Tangipahoa Parish. Officers possessed arrest warrants on fifteen (15) non compliant sex offenders, of which five (5) were located and arrested. Additionally, officers performed compliance checks at eighty-five (85) homes that sex offenders have identified as their residences.
In addition to Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's deputies, deputy United States Marshal's, Louisiana Probation and Parole Agents, and Louisiana State Police detectives participated in the operation.
"Convicted sex offenders are required to perform registration obligations which includes providing accurate personal information to the public. In recent press releases issued by my office, I warned convicted sex offenders to either comply with sex offender registration laws or get arrested. Thursday's operation is a continuation of that same message. Sex offenders who fail to provide accurate registration information are a threat to public safety, and therefore will be arrested. Narcotics Arrest

ROBERT, LA – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the arrest of three suspects for the manufacturing of methamphetamines after agents initiated a traffic stop on Obee Stevens Road on April 19, 2010.
Agents initiated a traffic on a vehicle occupied by Lacie Stanga (w/f, DOB 9.4.82), Chase Hoyt (w/m, DOB 4.14.83) of 45143 Obee Stevens Rd. and Bobby Starkey (w/m, DOB 12.8.75) of W. Maylberry St. in Amite. The vehicle was blocking a public roadway when agents initiated the stop.
This roadside investigation led agents to the residence of Lacie Stanga and Chase Hoyt on Obee Stevens Rd. As a result of the information gathered at the residence, all three subjects were arrested and charged with possession of and the manufacturing of methamphetamines.
OCS Agents were also called to the scene. Ms. Stanga had her two children in the residence while agents located marijuana plants, a shotgun and the components to manufacture methamphetamines. The children were later released to their fathers.
Listed below are the subject’s charges:
Lacie Stanga and Chase Hoyt:
Charges: operation/creation of a meth lab, possession of CDS II, possession of marijuana, cultivating marijuana, carrying a firearm while in the possession of CDSII narcotics and child desertion. Hoyt was also charged for violating his probation and parole.
Starkey:
Charges: operation/creation of a meth lab, possession of CDS II and three outstanding FTA’s.

HAMMOND MAN ARRESTED

HAMMOND MAN ARRESTED  - HAMMOND – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the arrest of Ivan Pinestraw, 37 of 12044 Wardline Rd. in Hammond. Pinestraw was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary, three counts of simple kidnapping (domestic), simple battery (domestic) and for having an outstanding warrant on an unrelated charge.

On Friday, April 16, 2010, at approximately 2:10 am, Deputy Bobby Guy responded to a residence on Wardline Rd. in reference to a reported disturbance. Upon arrival at the residence, deputies met with a subject who stated that Pinestraw came to a residence on Quick Blvd. where the victim was staying and forced his way into the home. While inside of the residence, Pinestraw attempted to choke and commit battery on the victim.

After attempting to choke the victim, Pinestraw threatened that if she did not follow him back to his residence, he would take her small children to Manchac and she would never see them again. In fear, the female victim and her children were forced to follow Pinestraw to his residence on Wardline Road. Once they arrived and entered the residence, Pinestraw threatened to kill himself. After as short time, Pinestraw fell asleep and the victim was able to contact the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.

After meeting with the victim, deputies entered the room where Pinestraw was said to be sleeping. At this time, Pinestraw was taken into custody without incident and charged with the above mentioned charges.

WANTED SUSPECT ARRESTED

HAMMOND – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the arrest of Quentin Sheridan, 32 of 22325 Fletcher Rd. in Ponchatoula, LA. Sheridan. Sheridan was arrested on April 13, 2010, and charged with simple rape, sexual battery, and molestation of a juvenile and on 2 FTA warrants (traffic offenses).
On April 13, 2010, deputies learned that Sheridan was to be located at a residence on Stuart Lane in Pumpkin Center. Deputies responded to the location, surrounded the residence and successfully apprehended Sheridan.
Sheridan’s charges were the result of a report filed on Monday April 4, 2010, where Sheridan was reported to have been molesting underage females. As a result of an investigation lead by TPSO Juvenile Detective Beth Russell, charges were filed against Sheridan.
Sheridan was apprehended and transported to the TPSO Jail.

Sheriff Announces Check Point

HAMMOND, LA – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards announces that the Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a Sobriety/Impaired Driver Checkpoint on Friday April 30, 2010, on the South end of Tangipahoa Parish.
The Checkpoint will begin at approximately 10:00 P.M. that evening and will continue until approximately 4:00 AM the following morning (weather permitting).

Drive Impaired Get Arrested & Remember, the only designated driver is the person who has had NO ALCOHOL.

TPSO CRIME STOPPERS

INDEPENDENCE – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Department is looking for two unknown black male suspects who broke into a residence on Ruffino Rd. These two suspects held the homeowner at gunpoint while they burglarized the home.
On April 12, 2010, at approximately 10:15 pm, Deputy Dennis L Braziel responded to a residence on Ruffino Road in reference to an aggravated burglary.
Upon arrival, deputies learned that two unknown black males, pretending to be police officers, were yelling at the door of the residence. Then within moments, the two male subjects broke in the home, pointed a gun at the victim and demanded money. After taking several items from the home, the suspects left.
Detectives are looking for two black males, approximately 5’8’ tall, one with a dark complexion and short hair and the other with a medium complexion and braids.
The suspects were seen leaving the residence in an older modeled white four door vehicle with dark window tint and with hub-caps.

Arrest

KENTWOOD – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the arrest of James Brumfield, 52 of 20380 E. Lewiston Rd. Brumfield was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace, simple battery, simple criminal damage to property and resisting an officer.
On Sunday April 11, 2010, Sgt. Terry Lane responded to the E. Lewiston Rd. residence in reference to the report of a disturbance. Upon arrival Sgt. Lane spoke with a subject who stated that Brumbfield was causing a disturbance and being physically aggressive and destructive inside of the stated residence.
At this moment, Sgt. Lane observed Brumbfield enter the room yelling in an aggressive manner. Sgt. Lane then placed Brumbfield in handcuffs. Upon doing so, Brumbfield began to aggressively resist Sgt. Lane. Brumbfield continued to aggressively resist as Sgt. Lane attempted to place Brumbfield in his patrol unit.
After further investigation of the incident, Brumbfield was arrested and charged with the above stated charges.

CRIME STOPPERS

PONCHATOULA – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards is asking for your assistance in gathering information regarding a hit and run which occurred on April 10, 2010 resulting in the death of two Hammond residents.

At approximately 6:30 pm, Carl J. Vorenkamp (W/M age 53), Carrie M. Vorenkamp (W/F age 56) of Hammond, LA were killed as the result of a hit and run vehicle crash. LSP Troop L stated that a black SUV was traveling north on Interstate 55 in the left lane of travel. For an unknown reason, the black SUV veered to the left and drove off the roadway into the center median. The SUV then veered back to the right and impacted the left side of the Ford Focus causing the Focus to run off road to the right. As the Ford Focus continued off road, it crossed the East Service Road of Interstate 55 northbound, overturned, and struck a parked 1995 International dump truck. After impact, the Ford Focus came to rest overturned on its roof in a ditch. The black SUV fled the scene and continued north on Interstate 55.

The hit and run vehicle is described by a witness as an older model black Cadillac SUV with damage to its right passenger side. Anyone with information regarding this hit and run fatality crash is asked to contact CRIME STOPPERS at 800.554.5245.

The family of the victim’s are offering a $2000 cash reward for also add an additional a $2,000.00 as a cash award.

I addition to the crime stoppers reward; the family of the victim’s are also offering a $2,000 reward for the information leading the arrest of the driver.

WANTED SECOND DEGREE MURDER SUSPECT

HAMMOND- Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is looking for second degree murder suspect Derrick J. Dupard, (B/M, DOB 6.24.88) of 14184 Maple Street, Tickfaw, LA.

Dupard is being charged with second degree murder for the death of Prioniro Lamonte Scott (DOB 12.17.70). Scott was gunned down in the front yard of his residence on April 1, 2010. Scott later died at a local hospital.

During the course of the investigation, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office Detectives have reason to believe that Derrick J. Dupard is responsible for the murder of Scott.

Dupard is wanted for questioning in a recent Homicide in Natalbany La. That occurred on April 1, 2010. He is also wanted unrelated charges. HAMMOND – LA- Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that Criminal Investigative Detective Dayle Athmann is asking for your assistance in locating Asim Shakier Ruffin, AKA “RUFF”, (B/M DOB 5.7.81) of 13400 Crosby Lane, Tickfaw, LA.

Ruffin is wanted by the sheriff’s office on an active warrant for obstruction of justice in a homicide investigation.

April 2, 2010

NATALBANY – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that a Natalbany man dies after being shot in the front yard of his residence.

Prioniro Lanonet Scott, (B/M DOB 12.17.70) of 15399 Hwy. 1064 in Natalbany died at approximately 10:00 PM at NOMC as the result of a shooting which occurred at his residence on April 1, 2010. It was stated that at around 8:00 PM, witnesses heard several shots fired. Prioniro was then observed running to the street and flagging down a passing motorist for help.

Prioniro was then taken to NOMC where he later died from the injuries he sustained as a result of the shooting.

Burglary Suspect Arrested

HAMMOND- Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the arrest of Ronnie Cummings, 34 of 41007 Eileen Lane in Ponchatoula, LA. Cummings was arrested and charged with burglary of an inhibited dwelling.
On April 8, 2010, deputies were dispatched to Cypress Cove Trailer Park in regards to a white male subject who allegedly broke into another residence in the trailer park.
Upon arrival, deputies observed the male subject "Ronnie Cummings" standing outside the residence. At this time, deputies began to gather information regarding the incident. It was stated that Cummings was observed outside of the residence which was burglarized. As deputies searched the residence for evidence, they observed an area of forced entry into the home. Sgt. Tommy Ferrand and Deputy Wesley Corkern also discovered evidence linking Cummings to the crime.
As the result of the investigation and with the evidence found from the crime scene, Cummings was then arrested and charged accordingly.

TPSO ARREST

TPSO ARREST - INDEPENDENCE – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the arrest of 17 year old Robert Blackwell of Alexander Rd.
On April 8, 2010, Blackwell was arrested and charged with simple assault after deputies responded to a residence where Blackwell allegedly pushed down a female victim and became aggressive with her. The victim stated that this was not the first time the 17 year old became physically aggressive.
As a result of the investigation, Deputy Corey Michelli arrested Blackwell and charged him accordingly.

Sheriff\'s K9\'s Show Their Stuff

HAMMOND – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards proudly announces that the TPSO K9 Unit participated in the Region 10 USPCA K9 trials held in Zachary, LA.

These trials include K9 Handlers and there K9 companions from LA, AR and MS. Each year these teams come together for annual certifications and to compete to qualify to participate in the National USPCA field trials. We are proud to announce that all TPSO K9 Teams certified and qualified to participate in the National USPCA Trials which will be held in Hammond, LA and hosted by Sheriff Edwards and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.

During these trials, participants show the abilities in the areas of obedience, agility, scent work and suspect apprehension with and without gunfire. Deputy Neihaus also certified and qualified in the field of narcotics work.

Sgt. Tommy Ferrand and K9 Diego certified and qualified for Nationals receiving 11th place overall in the Region.
Sgt. Steven Redmond and K9 Bart certified and qualified for Nationals receiving 1st place in scent work.
Deputy Mike Dean Jr and K9 Emir certified and qualified for the National Field trails.
Deputy Henry Neihaus and K9 Trigger certified and qualified for the National Field trails.
Deputy Albert Sharp and K9 Titan certified and qualified for the National Field trails.

The National USPCA Field Trials held on October 31st – November 5th 2010 here in Hammond, LA are open to the community. As the event host, we welcome anyone who would like to attend. We will communicate the location once it has been approved.

AMITE – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that on April 5, 2010, at approx 4:15 PM, Deputy Mike Dean Jr responded to HWY 16 West in Amite to assist the Amite PD in locating a fleeing suspect.

James Willis, 31 of 15076 Hwy 11 Amite, LA., the suspect of an auto theft which occurred in the morning hours of April 5, 2010, was said to be hiding in the wooded area behind the Tangipahoa Parish School Board Office building.

At this time, all units set up a perimeter around in the area. Deputy Dean Jr. and K9 Emir prepared to enter the wooded area in search of the suspect. The suspect was described as a white male with dark hair, thin build; wearing blue jeans and a light in color t-shirt.

Deputy Dean, Deputy Adam Pailet and K9 Emir entered the wooded area and began to track for the suspect. After a brief search, Deputy Dean and K9 Emir observed the suspect hiding behind a grouping of trees. Deputy Dean gave several verbal commands for the suspect to surrender. Ignoring Deputy Dean’s request, K9 Emir was called to apprehend the suspect.

At this time, Willis was taken into custody and charged with possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.

WANTED Suspect

Roadside Arrest

HAMMOND – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that TPSO deputies arrest 18 year old Timothy Fralick of James Chapel Rd. in Albany for driving under the influence and for being in the possession of schedule II narcotics.

On April 3, 2010, at approximately 7:15 PM, Deputies Reginald Cotton and John Eady responded to the area of Wardline Road and Rufus Bankston Road in reference to a possible drunk driver. Deputies were advised that a concerned citizen was following the vehicle west bound on Wardline Road and that the driver of the vehicle was driving erratically.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle as it pulled into a driveway on South Baptist Rd. Deputies made contact with the driver identified as Fralick and observed his speech to be slow and slurred. As the driver exited the vehicle, it was apparent that he was having trouble maintaining his balance.

As a result of the roadside investigation conducted by deputies, Fralick was arrested and taken into custody for driving under the influence and for being in possession of schedule II narcotics.

Homicide Investigation

Worthless Checks Division Wanted Suspects

Amite, LA – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that Detective Dean Waltzer of the Worthless Checks Division is asking for your assistance in locating the following suspects:

1. Demetric R. Williams (b/f, DOB 11.19.65) of 1105 Sunland in Hammond, LA is wanted by the TPSO on four counts of issuing checks on a closed account in our parish.
2. Leah Fontenot (w/f, DOB 10.29.73) of 12148 Arcola Rd. in Roseland, LA is wanted by the TPSO on two counts of issuing worthless checks to local businesses on our parish.
