KENTWOOD - Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that on July 20, 2011, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Narcotics Agents, with the assistance of DEA and Hammond Police Department conducted a narcotics investigation in Kentwood, La. which resulted in 3 arrests and over $30,000 worth of narcotics.
On the afternoon of July 20, 2011, Agents arrested Christien Scott, James Self, and Tullie Whitten, for possession with intent to distribute 15 pounds of marijuana and approximately 115 grams of cocaine base "crack". Additionally, narcotics agents located a .38 Caliber pistol inside the vehicle in which the arrestees were occupying.
All three suspects were booked into the Hammond Police Department Jail to await being transported to the United States Marshals Service where the suspects will face federal charges in the Eastern District of Louisiana.

HAMMOND – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the arrest of 41 year old Willie Roberts of 15179 Alexander Rd. in Independence on charges of Disturbing the Peace, Interfering with a Law Enforcement Investigation and Resisting an Officer.
On July 19, 2011, at approximately 11:00 pm, Deputy Ryan Schumacher responded to 15179 Alexander Road in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival Deputy Schumacher advised that after stepping out of his patrol unit, he was approached by a man yelling profanities. Deputy Schumacher advised the man to calm down, which he refused. Deputy Schumacher asked the man for his name, which he refused to provide. The man later identified as Willie Roberts stated there was someone in the residence threatening the occupants. Upon investigation, it was learned that ROBERTS was the subject causing the disturbance and appeared to be in an intoxicated state.
Deputy Schumacher then attempted to speak with ROBERTS, however ROBERTS stood up and began yelling profanities once again. Deputy Schumacher physically removed ROBERTS from the residence. Once outside the door Willie stated "They better get ready, I'm gonna get em!". Deputy Schumacher advised Willie of his Rights per Miranda and attempted to place handcuffs on his wrists. Willie immediately pulled away from Deputy Schumacher began resisting.
ROBERTS was restrained and transported to the Parish Jail where he was booked and properly charged.
HAMMOND – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards announces that the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is offering an additional $2,500.00 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for the death of 35 year old Robert Kelly. Kelly was found inside of his residence on Durbin Rd. Ext on June 27, 2011. It was determined that Kelly death was caused by a single gunshot wound to the head. Detectives have officially classified this case as a homicide.
Detectives are still asking for information regarding this investigation. Anyone having information should contact Crime Stoppers at 800.554.5245. HAMMOND – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the following information.
The Criminal Investigations Department of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide which occurred June 27, 2011, on Durbin Rd extension. 35 yr old Robert Kelly was found deceased inside his residence at approximately 1:39 pm. This is the only information that will be released regarding this investigation at this time.

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that on Saturday July 23, 2011, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a DWI / Impaired Driver Checkpoint in Tangipahoa Parish. The Checkpoint will begin approximately at 10:00 pm. and will conclude at approximately 4:00 am the next morning.
By never allowing an impaired driver to get behind the wheel of a vehicle and reporting dangerous drivers to law enforcement, the public can play a vital role in the reduction of crashes and deaths caused by impaired drivers. Sheriff Edwards reminds you that "Buzzed" Driving is still impaired driving and is against the law!

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives are asking for your assistance in identifying the subject in this photo. This picture was captured on surveillance cameras on June 24th as the suspect was trespassing and stealing scrap metal from an old dairy farm in the Bolivar Community on LA 440.

PONCHATOULA – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that on July 6, 2011, deputies arrested 36 year old Sterling Poole of 23481 Redwood Dr. POOLE was arrested and charged with Second Degree Battery and Resisting Arrest.
At approximately midnight, deputies responded to a residence on Redwood Dr. regarding a battery. Deputies learned that POOLE, possibly being under the influence of alcohol, physically attacked another subject and fled the scene in a Mitsubishi Montero. While deputies were at the stated residence, they observed POOLE pass the home and turn west bound on Magnolia Rd. Deputies left in pursuit of POOLE and located his vehicle unoccupied near Saw Mill Rd. POOLE evacuated his vehicle fled on foot through a wooded area. Deputies and the LPSO K9 team arrived on scene and began a search for the suspect.
LPSO K9 Apache tracked the suspect back to the Redwood Dr. residence. At this time, it was believed that POOLE entered the residence and then barricaded himself inside by locking all of the doors. The homeowner gave permission for deputies to make forced entry into the residence in search of POOLE. Within moments, POOLE was located and taken into custody.
PONCHATOULA - Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that on July 4, 2011, 34 year old Marcus Powell of 20186 Hwy 22, of Ponchatoula, LA was arrested and charged with Possession of a Firearm while being a Convicted Felon, Battery, Aggravated Assault and Simple Assault.
On Monday July 4, 2011, at approximately 12:05 AM, deputies responded to 20186 Hwy 22 regarding a disturbance with weapons. It was soon learned that POWELL, produced a hand gun on a subject after a verbal altercation became physical. POWELL, reported to be under the influence of narcotics, became violent during an argument and upon his departure, loaded and pointed a hand gun at the victim while making threats.
Deputies located POWELL in his vehicle. On the passenger seat, deputies located a 9mm Beretta. POWELL, also having an extensive criminal history and several falcon convictions, was taken into custody and charged accordingly.
HAMMOND - Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office Juvenile Detectives Unit is looking for wanted suspect Dequan BROWN (7.19.94) of 18325 Miller Lane in Hammond, LA.
BROWN is wanted for the Second Degree Battery of a minor. On June 25, 2011, BROWN allegedly struck a young teenager in the face several times with his fist and possibly an unknown object causing the child to need medical attention.
BROWN was last seen in the area of 350 East Pecan St. and North 11th Street in Ponchatoula, LA. Anyone knowing the whereabouts of BROWN is asked to please contact Crime Stoppers at 800.552.5245 or TPSO Detective Beth Russell at 985.748.3353.
