HAMMOND, LA – (August 15, 2017) - Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the following arrest.
On the morning of Tuesday August 15, 2017, at around 0813 hours, Detective Travis Pitman with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriffs Office Financial Crimes Unit and Detective Chad Hill of the Hammond Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit conducted a wanted person check at the residence belonging to subject Keaun Brooks (DOB-8/15/89) located on Kohnke Hill Road in Hammond, Louisiana.
Brooks had two outstanding felony retail theft warrants through the Hammond Police Department and was also wanted by the Louisiana Department of Corrections Probation and Parole Division. Upon arrival at the residence detectives observed the subject, Keaun Brooks seated in a blue Saturn Ion backed in the driveway directly in front of the doorway of his suspected residence.
As detectives attempted to approach Brooks to make contact, he immediately began making furtive movements toward the floorboard of his vehicle alarming detectives. At this time, Brooks was ordered to exit his vehicle – to which he complied. While Brooks was exiting the vehicle, detectives observed in plain view suspected marijuana packaged for sale in the drivers side floorboard, a loaded Ruger LCP .380 Caliber Handgun in between the driver’s seat and console, and a large sum of mixed denomination U.S. Currency laid across the passenger seat of Brooks’ vehicle. It was later determined to be $2,440.00 of cash currency.
Based on the packaging, amount, the loaded weapon and the large sum of cash, it is believed that Brooks was preparing the suspected marijuana for sales. A criminal history check revealed that Brooks had felony convictions in 2013 & 2014 and was currently on Felony Probation & Parole for his convictions. Brooks was identified as a felon in possession of a firearm.
Today, on his birthday, Brooks was transported to the Hammond Police Department Correctional Facility, booked for his outstanding warrants and later relocated to the Tangipahoa Parish Jail where he was welcomed for his narcotics related offenses.
