New Orleans resident arrested on Possession Charges
HAMMOND, LA – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the arrest of a New Orleans area resident traveling through Tangipahoa Parish with the intention of distributing of illegal narcotics.
Saturday, TPSO deputies arrested 51 year old Shannon Swan of Destrehan after a traffic stop on I-12 led to the discovery of illegal narcotics and $48,000 in cash currency.
While positioned west bound on Interstate 12, Lieutenant Fernand observed and initiated a traffic stop on Swan’s vehicle for erratic driving and almost causing a crash. While making contact with Swan deputies asked if she had any illegal weapons or substances in her vehicle. Although Swan replied that she did not, she declined consent for deputies to search her vehicle.
At this time, Lt. Ferrand and K9 Mako conduced a free air sweep outside of and around Swan’s vehicle. During the free air sweep, K9 Mako alerted to the trunk area and back bumper of the vehicle. As a result, deputies located a shoe box containing marijuana and a large sum of cash currency in Swan’s trunk.
Subsequently, Swan was taken into custody and cited for a traffic violation and charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana. This case was turned over to the TPSO’s Narcotics Unit.
