Fatal Crash
PONCHATOULA, LA (September 20, 2016) - Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that a 22 year male died yesterday morning after a fatal vehicle crash on Traino Lane in Ponchatoula.
Preliminary investigation reveals that at approximately 4:57 yesterday morning, 20 year old Michael Shawley Jr. of Ponchatoula and passenger 22 year old Logan Murphy were traveling west on Traino Lane when Shawley’s 2015 Toyota Scion crossed the center line as he was maneuvering into a curve at a high rate of speed. Subsequently while doing so, Sharwley’s vehicle impacted head-on with a 1993 Chevy Pick-Up truck driven by 44 year old Christopher Barousse of Madisonville, LA. Barousse was the sole occupant of the pick-up truck.
Following the crash, all parties were transported to North Oaks Medical Center for treatment. Consequently, 22 year old Logan Murphy of Ponchatoula died a short time later as a result of his injuries. Shawley currently remains in ICU. Barousse also sustained moderate injuries and is reported to be in stable condition.
Blood samples have been obtained and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis to see if impairment was a factor in the crash. The investigation is on-going with charges pending.
