PONCHATOULA, LA – (April 11, 2017) – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that the sheriff’s office began investigating the department’s fifth homicide this year.
The tragic death of 89 year old Dorothy Poche of Ponchatoula, LA. comes as the result of a structure fire that occurred around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday April, 10, 2017.
Deputies responded to a residence on School Section Rd. in Ponchatoula after neighbors reported hearing a loud noise described as a “boom” near by. As they stepped outside to identify the sound, they saw lights from a vehicle exiting a near-by roadway and the victim’s house on fire.
The home was already engulfed by flames when the TPSO, Ponchatoula Volunteer Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance Services arrived on scene. Sadly, during the initial investigation conducted by the Ponchatoula Fire Department, the deceased’s body was located inside of the residence.
A further investigation was conducted by the Louisiana State Fire Marshalls Office in an attempt to determine the origin of the fire revealed the presence of an accelerant used to fuel the fire. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriffs Office continued their investigation and has identified 26-year old Timothy Rouchon, of Abbeville, LA. as a person of interest in this case.
Additionally, Ms. Poche's vehicle, a green Mercury Marquis, was not located at her residence the night the sheriff’s office began its investigation; however was recently discovered abandoned. On April 10, 2017, around 11:30 p.m. the Washington Parish Sheriffs Office recovered Ms. Poche’s vehicle abandoned in Bogalusa, LA.
