Narcotics Related Arrest


HAMMOND, LA - October 3, 2018 - Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the following:

In the evening hours of October 1, 2018, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s deputies, with the assistance of Hammond Police Department, executed a narcotics related search warrant at residence on Sister's Road in Ponchatoula, LA. - which is located less than one thousand feet from an elementary school. As investigators arrived at the residence, the target of the investigation, 45-year-old Alton Lynell PINES was observed exiting his vehicle at the residence. As investigators approached PINES, instructing him to step away from the vehicle and get own the ground, PINES suddenly reached down into the vehicle as if to grab an unknown item. PINES was again given commands to exit the vehicle and show investigators his hands. As PINES exited the car, investigators observed PINES clinching several items in his hands.

As investigators approached PINES, he placed what was later discovered to be approximately 31 grams “1.3 ounces” of suspected heroin onto the driver side roof of the vehicle. As investigators began the search of the residence, they discovered suspected cocaine hcl “powder cocaine”, several doses of suspected Xanax and Oxycodone, assorted drug paraphernalia and packaging items which is consistent with the distribution of illegal narcotics, and two handguns one of which was reported stolen from Tennessee.

Alton Lynell PINES, 45 years old of Sister's Road Ponchatoula, LA was subsequently charged with the following:
Possession with intent to distribute controlled dangerous substance schedule I
Possession with intent to distribute controlled dangerous substance schedule II
Possession of controlled dangerous substance schedule III
Possession of controlled dangerous substance schedule IV
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Possession of weapons while in possession of controlled dangerous substance
Convicted felon in possession of a firearm
Possession of a stolen firearm
Possession of a firearm in a firearm free zone
Violation of uniform controlled Dangerous substance act ( Drugs within a school zone)
