BEWARE of PORCH PIRATES!

HAMMOND, LA - December 18, 2018 - The holiday season means a lot of deliveries to people’s doorsteps, but those packages can become targets for thieves.
Sheriff Edwards urges the public to be vigilant about package deliveries. Daytime thieves target front porches, especially during holidays.

"We have seen some random thefts where thieves either drive around various neighborhoods or simply travel on foot looking to capitalize on an opportunity. What is most important is to be on the lookout for your neighbors and watch your surroundings." says Edwards. The TPSO has been informed of a 2007 Lexus IS bearing Mississippi plate PRA3312 that has been identified as being connected to such crimes in Livingston and Tangipahoa Parishes. We recommend that residents monitor online purchases, delivery dates and delays to ensure your packages have not been stolen.

The TPSO also urges homeowners to take additional steps to prevent themselves from becoming victims of theft. To avoid being a victim, you should have packages delivered to a location where someone can receive them in person, like a workplace or a neighbor's house. Also if possible, installing surveillance cameras, such as a ring security camera embedded in a doorbell, to deter thieves altogether.

Sheriff Edwards also urges any package delivery person(s) to contact local law enforcement if they notice suspicious activity in our neighborhoods while delivering packages.
