BUDGET MESSAGE
As chief law enforcement officer of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, I hereby submit the proposed General Fund and Special Revenue Fund budgets for the year ending June 30, 2020, in accordance with provisions of LRS 39:1306-1311. This budget reflects an estimate of fund balances to be carried over to the 2019-2020 budget year from the current year together with revenues and expenditures attributable to the 2019-2020 budget year.
Our mission is to provide the highest quality of public safety services to our community. As deputies with TPSO, it is our purpose to protect life and property while maintaining peace through relentless efforts of bringing justice to those who prey upon the innocent.
In February, 2019, The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office announced the start of a program designed specifically for those suffering from alcohol or drug addiction, seek the help they need through law enforcement without fear of being arrested. Operation Angel allows someone suffering from addiction to voluntarily walk into any law enforcement in Tangipahoa Parish, surrender any drugs or paraphernalia they may have, and ask for help without fear of arrest. The Sheriff's Office Operation Angel program is modeled after the very successful Angel Program in St. Tammany Parish. I am pleased to partner with all law enforcement agencies within our parish who are in full support of this vision. A vision where non-arrest diversion programs become a standard in community policing practices, thereby reducing overdose deaths, expanding access to treatment, reducing crime, and increasing trust between law enforcement and their communities. Tangipahoa Parish is the third parish in Louisiana to adopt this newapproach.
We are extremely proud of our national accreditation from The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement and we continue to set public safety as our agency’s number one mission. We are one of only four sheriff’s offices in the state of Louisiana to receive and maintain accreditation and we are extremely proud of this accomplishment.
Respectfully submitted,
Daniel H. Edwards, Sheriff
