Don't Be SCAMMED!

HAMMOND, LA. - APRIL 15, 2020 - Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards warns citizens of new SCAM.
A new type of phone scam has entered circulation where cellular customers are receiving a phone call and a pre-recorded message informs them their cellular account has been suspended. The recording uses a well-spoken male voice and background music in an attempt to add a sense of legitimacy. Further voice prompts direct the victim to divulge personal and financial information.
TPSO Financial and Cyber Crimes Unit is asking anyone receiving these types of calls to hang up right away. If anyone has a concern about the status of their cellular account, they should contact their provider directly through numbers they know are legitimate and trustworthy. When possible, cellular customers should utilize the carriers mobile phone application to check their account but NEVER give account information (usernames, passwords) out to anyone.
