Water Arrest
HAMMOND, LA - August 22, 2020 - Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the arrest of 64 year old Rhett Melancon of Ponchatoula, La.
On August 23rd at 3:00am water patrol deputies, while responding to a medical emergency, noted a suspicious boat in the Manchac area without proper Illumination. After completing the medical call deputies intercepted the suspicious boat. Observed within the boat were at least 5 crab pots belonging to 5 different local crabbers.
Department of Wildlife and Fisheries was contacted and responded to assist with the investigation.
Melancon was charged with the thefts along with a plethora of other wildlife violations.
