TPSO K9 Vhari
HAMMOND, LA - The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of a K-9 after being diagnosed and battling cancer.
TPSO K-9 Deputy Vhari, a 9 -year-old Belgian Malinois, was diagnosed a little over one year ago. True to his nature, Vhari defied all the odds and managed to work up until the last days leading to his death. After numerous doctor visits, at-home-care, and treatments, Vhari passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020.
Vhari was not your ordinary canine– he had an intense drive. His extremely high energy and intensity made him the perfect partner for TPSO Lieutenant Corey Michlelli. Vhari began training and working with Lt. Michelli in March of 2014.
Vhari was a certified dual purpose police canine trained in criminal apprehension, building searches, area searches, evidence detection, narcotics detection, tracking of missing persons, tracking fleeing suspects, crowd control, and protecting the life of his handler, other law enforcement officers and our community members.
Vhari loved to work and had a successful law enforcement career with (13) apprehensions, assisted in over 300 arrests, seized over $100,000 in US Currency, numerous handguns, and a large quantity of illegal narcotics. He loved spending his days with his best friend and handler, Lieutenant Michelli.
Our hearts are heavy and we are extremely saddened by this loss. We ask for your prayers and support for our department and for Lt. Michelli and his family.
