LAW ENFORCEMENT ACCREDITATION TEAM INVITES PUBLIC COMMENT
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office will soon complete a triennial review required to retain its status as a fully accredited agency, a highly prized distinction that the department has maintained since its initial accreditation in 2011. This voluntary process of obtaining accreditation imparts upon the agency a national recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.
A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will conduct a virtual assessment beginning August 1, 2022, to examine all aspects of the department’s policy and procedures, management operations and support services. The assessment team comprises law enforcement practitioners from out-of-state police agencies that are characteristically similar to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The assessors will review written materials and interview individuals who can verify that the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is in constant and continuous compliance with the Tier1 level Accreditation standards. The standards are available to view by contacting the Commission at the address listed below.
As part of the assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on Monday, August 1, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. in the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office located at 15475 W. Club Deluxe Rd. Persons wishing to speak but cannot appear at the public information session may provide comments to the assessment team by telephone between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on August 1, 2022, at 985-277-9730.
Comments offered during the public information session must address the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. Appearance and telephone comments are limited to 5 minutes.
Persons wishing to offer written comments about Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation may write to the Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. 13575 Heathcote Blvd. Suite 160, Gainesville, Virginia 20155.
Upon completion of their review, the Commission’s assessors report to the full Commission, this will then decide if the department is to be re-accredited.
