Be On The Lookout: Child Taken from Stateline Area
KENTWOOD (September 30, 2025)- The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance with locating a kidnapped juvenile.
Christopher Cooper, 2, was last seen in the backseat of a white 2011 GMC Yukon with Mississippi plate “PJT070” driven by James Casey Mercier, 49, of McComb, Mississippi.
Around 9:45 p.m., Cooper’s mother reported having been in the vehicle with Mercier and her child traveling south on I-55 when they pulled over north of Kentwood at the Welcome Center. When the mother got out of the car to get the child out of the backseat, Mercier took off with the child traveling southbound.
The child, Christopher, is a light-skinned black male with short black hair and brown eyes standing 3’2” tall and weighing 40-50 lbs. He was last seen wearing a red shirt, black pants, and blue crocs.
The suspect, Mercier, is described as a white male with brown hair and brown eyes standing 5’09” and weighing 160 lbs.
Sheriff Gerald Sticker asks anyone with information regarding Christopher’s whereabouts to call 9-1-1 if in the Tangipahoa Parish area; if outside of the parish, please contact our Juvenile Division at 985-902-2031 or our dispatch center at 985-345-6150.
