Special Detail Requests
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office provides the opportunity for businesses, private citizens, and organizations to contract additional law enforcement services with off-duty sheriff's deputies. During off-duty employment, deputies are directed by their law enforcement powers, which are governed by state code. Deputies do not have the authority to enforce private employers' rules and regulations and cannot perform non-law enforcement tasks. To ensure services are scheduled efficiently and delivered in a timely manner, please review the following guidelines.
Procedures
- Begin with Special Event Permit application to Tangipahoa Parish Government per Chapter 8, Article III, Division 2 of the Tangipahoa Parish Code of Ordinances which defines a 'special event' as "an event confined to or designed for a definite field of action, purpose, or occasion where 150 or more people are in attendance, which is of a periodic nature and to which members of the public are admitted for a charge, whether or not the charge is directly or indirectly made."
- Examples of 'special event' types include fundraisers, festivals, fairs, carnivals, markets, concerts, parades, race/run/walks.
- Through the parish permitting process, an applicant will also be directed to complete an application to TPSO no later than five (5) days prior to the event, except in the case of funeral escorts or emergency public utility services, which may be submitted on shorter notice as circumstances reasonably require. Applications to TPSO can be submitted here.
- To cancel a detail, you MUST notify the Detail Coordinator, (985) 551 -0750, (24) hours in advance, or by 5:00 P.M. on Friday for a weekend detail. If advance notice is not provided, you agree to pay the minimum "call-out" fee of four (4) hours.
Rates
- The hourly rate is a four (4) hour minimum per detail. Included in the hourly rate are administrative costs and an hourly vehicle use rate.
Notes
- All extra-duty details must receive prior approval from Tangipahoa Parish and the Sheriff's Office.
- Deputy coverage is not guaranteed for special details.
- The Sheriff's Office reserves the right to cancel extra-duty details without notice and to recall deputies for official duty when necessary at any time. The Sheriff's Office shall not have any responsibility nor be subject to any penalty for doing so.
- If it is determined that the size of the event warrants, or that deputy safety is an issue, extra deputies will be required to ensure safety and efficient law enforcement coverage.
