Underage Sales Enforcement Nets Several Citations

AMITE (October 2, 2025)- Thanks to the support of a Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC) grant, more than a dozen business clerks have been cited in recent operations to uncover and address underage tobacco and alcohol sales and use.

Since July, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office(TPSO) deputies, from all divisions, have been assigned additional shifts focused solely on identifying businesses, their employees, and customers engaged in unlawful sales of tobacco and alcohol in an effort to reduce underage substance abuse. During the operations, around 70 retail alcoholic beverage and tobacco establishments in the north and south ends of the parish were visited where 16 individuals were cited for Unlawful sale, purchase, or possession of tobacco, alternative nicotine products or vapor products.

Sheriff Gerald Sticker wants to commend all of the employees who follow sales laws on a daily basis, as well as the business owners who hold their employees to the standards not only set by the law but the expectations set by our community.

The TPSO is grateful for the opportunity to conduct this operation which was made possible through the Juvenile Underage Drinking Enforcement (JUDE) grant coordinated and funded by the LHSC in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
