Dec 31, 2025

HAMMOND (December 31, 2025)- The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) has arrested an Independence man for tragically killing his brother during an argument.

Vincent Hart, 58, has been booked on one count of 2nd Degree Murder in the death of 48-year-old Dalvis Hart.

Around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday evening, December 30, a 911 call came in reporting two men fighting in a parking lot in the 11000 block of Highway 190 in the Hammond area. Shortly after, a second call came in reporting that the argument had escalated to a shooting. Deputies arrived to find the victim suffering from a gunshot wound and not breathing. He was transported to an area hospital, but did not survive.

During the investigation, detectives learned the suspect worked at the incident location and the victim showed up there for unknown reasons before the argument began.

“This is a tragedy that just didn’t have to happen,” said Sheriff Gerald Sticker, “I urge everyone to please choose words over weapons when disagreeing with others. I also ask the community to join me in prayer for this family, who is now dealing with unimaginable heartbreak especially at the end of the year.”
