“Buckle Up in Your Truck” this Spring

HAMMOND (April 16, 2026)- This week, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) will be one of dozens of law enforcement agencies across Louisiana participating in the Buckle Up in Your Truck campaign which runs from April 18-26, 2026. This effort is coordinated and funded by a Louisiana Highway Safety Commission grant program in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
During the campaign, more deputies will be tasked specifically with conducting checkpoints held in conjunction with the campaign. During the checkpoints, deputies will verify that all drivers and passengers in vehicles, especially pickup trucks, are following all seat belt and safety seat laws, as well as check for other violations.
Buckle Up in Your Truck is a seat belt enforcement campaign focused on improving the national seat belt usage rate, especially in pickup trucks, as statistics show they are twice as likely to roll over in a crash. In addition, here in Louisiana, truck drivers and occupants are statistically less likely to wear seatbelts and are at higher risk of severe injury or fatality in crashes
Sheriff Gerald Sticker asks Tangipahoa motorists to always prioritize safety, especially this Spring Break. If you encounter one of these checkpoints, please be patient and cooperative and help us spread awareness about these critical safety issues.
