Body Recovered in Tangipahoa River

ROBERT(April 24, 2026)- Following a multi-day, multi-agency effort, the body of a local farm employee who was swept into the Tangipahoa River while fishing has been recovered.

Marco Luis Martinez Antonio, 21 of Mexico, had been fishing along the banks of the river off of Robertson Lane across from Bardwell Road in the Robert area Wednesday afternoon. Witnesses say he walked into the water a few feet before getting swept away and pulled underwater by the current.

Since then, TPSO and the Ponchatoula Volunteer Fire Department have been searching the water with the assistance of numerous partner agencies including the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, the St.Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office cadaver dog team, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, Southeast Louisiana Underwater Search and Recovery as well as water rescue teams from St. George Fire Department, Central Fire Department and Eastside Fire Department, all from the Baton Rouge area.

Ultimately, the body was recovered around 12:30 p.m. this afternoon.

The TPSO wants to thank all of our law enforcement partners for their assistance, and the community for its support, during this tragic effort. Our condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones and we ask the public to join us in prayer for all affected by this unfortunate situation.
