TPSO Investigating Body Found

INDEPENDENCE (October 10, 2026)- The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) is investigating the discovery of a body in the Independence area.
Around 1:30 p.m. today, a fisherman reported finding an unresponsive white female along the bank of the Tangipahoa River near the Highway 40 bridge. Firefighters first on the scene confirmed the woman was deceased.
At this time, it is believed the woman was a transient from out-of-state living out of her car which was found parked along the highway. Official identification and cause of death are pending with the Coroner’s Office.
This is an open and active death investigation. Sheriff Gerald Sticker encourages anyone with information that can assist detectives to contact the Criminal Investigations Office at 985-902-2088.
