Jail Death Under Investigation

AMITE (February 9, 2026)- The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of aninmate at the jail Monday evening.

Around 5 p.m., Feb. 9, inmate Ernest Holden, 65, wasfound dead in bed in a medical observation area of the facility where he hadbeen receiving treatment for abdominal pain since Sunday. Holden had been in jail since December following a drug arrest by Hammond PD.

The TPSO Criminal Investigations Division isactively investigating the circumstances surrounding this death, which willinclude an autopsy to determine the cause.
